Laura Dumbleton, IVA Advanced Instructor
Hello, I’m Laura! I’ve been singing nearly as long as I’ve been talking. I did my first performance at age 5, performed in musical theatre throughout my teens, and fell properly in love with the voice when I started taking singing lessons as an adult and got curious about why the method worked so well.
After moving to Edinburgh in 2010 I started studying with an IVA teacher, got completely hooked on learning how the voice works, and in 2012 took the leap into becoming a Certified IVA Instructor. I haven’t looked back since. In 2024 I achieved the Advanced Instructor Certificate with IVA — 13 years in the making. I also hold a Masters in Music from the University of Edinburgh, graduating with Merit in 2019, specialising in stage fright in singers.
My students are a wonderfully diverse group of musical theatre, pop, rock, heavy metal, and funk singers, and over the years I’ve helped singers gain entry to musical theatre college and undergraduate programmes, successfully audition for professional shows, and secure contracts on cruise ships. I’ve turned shy beginners into karaoke enthusiasts and helped professional performers reach levels they didn’t know they could reach.
My speciality is stage fright and performance confidence. If something gets in the way when it counts, like if you know your material but fall apart under pressure, that’s exactly what I work on.
If you take lessons with me you’ll find a patient, kind and enthusiastic teacher. All I ask in return is that you commit to lessons, commit to practising, and commit to being the best singer you can be.
I teach online via Zoom worldwide, and a limited number of in-person lessons in Louth, Lincolnshire. I work with singers aged 18+ (but if you are 16 or 17 please drop me an email and we can discuss your experience and goals.)
In my other life, I coach stage fright, facilitate breathwork and work for IVA as part of the Support Team. I am a Breathwork Facilitator and Teacher with Breathing Space and a shadow work graduate of Jamie Catto’s School for the Insanely Gifted.
