Laura Dumbleton, IVA Advanced Instructor
Hello, I’m Laura! I have been singing nearly as long as I’ve been talking, and I did my first performance at age 5. I loved it so much, I performed in musical theatre until I was 18, and also briefly took singing lessons as a teenager.
I had a break from singing and performing whilst I went to University, but after moving to Edinburgh in 2010 I started taking singing lessons again because I missed it so much. I got curious about why the method worked so well, and attended a couple of workshops with IVA teachers, as well as studying with one regularly.
I got hooked on learning how the voice worked! So, in 2012, I took the leap into becoming a Certified IVA Instructor and I have never looked back!
After 13 years of study, I achieved the Advanced Instructor Certificate with IVA in 2024. I also started a Masters in Music at the University of Edinburgh in 2018, graduating with a Merit in 2019 as a Master of Research in Music, specialising in stage fright in singers.
My student base is made up of a very diverse group of singers. Currently I am teaching singers who sing musical theatre, pop, rock, heavy metal and funk music! My specialties are musical theatre and stage fright, so if you need help performing then I am probably the teacher for you.
Over my career, I have helped students gain entry to musical theatre college and undergraduate programs in the UK, successfully audition for professional musical theatre shows and achieve contracts working on cruise ships. I have helped dancers turn into singers, turned shy beginners into karaoke enthusiasts and elevated professional performers to a level they didn’t know they could reach.
If you take lessons with me, you will find a patient, kind and enthusiastic teacher. I want the best for you and to help you reach your goals. All I ask in return is that you commit to lessons, commit to practising and commit to being the best singer you can be.
Lessons with me are mainly online via Zoom, although I do teach a limited number of lessons in person in Louth, Lincolnshire. I teach professional and ‘amateur professional’ singers age 16+, and specialise in Musical Theatre. If you are under 16, I highly recommend working with our Associate Teacher, Nell!
In my other life, I coach Stage Fright and work for IVA as part of the Support Team. I am a Breathwork Facilitator and second year student with Breathing Space and a graduate of Jamie Catto’s School for the Insanely Gifted. I am currently developing workshops and retreats around singing, breathwork, shadow work and stage fright, so watch this space!
