Eleanor, (known to everyone as Nell!) has been singing her whole life. She started singing in choirs at primary school and it is still a big part of her life. She currently sings with a well-known acapella choir in Edinburgh and knows first hand the huge benefits to everyone’s well-being when singing in a group.
Nell studied with an IVA teacher for many years, and found that the technique allowed her to develop her voice in a way that hadn’t been possible before. Being a curious cat, she started by asking questions about how and why the technique works, and then took the leap into IVA’s teaching program in November 2022.
Fast forward to now, Nell is a second-year teacher in training on IVA’s Accredited Teacher Course. She enjoys teaching a range of students from complete beginners to those who are auditioning for and performing in shows.
In her other life, Nell’s background is in nursing and supporting families with neurodivergent children. This has fostered her special interest in and ability to support singers with physical disabilities, those who experience difficulties with learning and those who have neurodivergent traits. Nell’s voice students love her for her calm and reassuring manner when she’s teaching, helping them to feel comfortable when trying new things.
She believes that singing is a very personal experience, and it is entirely up to you how you want to use your voice. Some singers take voice lessons just so they can experience the amazing feeling of knowing their voice is developing, some find it helps their confidence in other situations, and others will want to work towards performances. Wherever you are on your vocal journey, Nell will tailor lessons to your goals and help you to explore getting the very best out of your voice at a pace that suits you.
