I’m already really good at singing. Why do I need a singing teacher?

By Laura Dumbleton

I'm already really good at singing. Why do I need a singing teacher?Consider this; How did you get from being a complete beginner to “really good”? A person, or perhaps many people, helped you along the way, right? Of course! Somewhere along the line, somebody helped you out of a sticky patch.

The reality is, to be able to progress with anything in life, you need a teacher. It can take the form of people, books, life experiences, and at it’s most basic level, our parents! So, what’s the most common theme here?

There is always another person involved.

Sure, you took the lessons and built upon them yourself, of course you did. But you had to have those initial teachings in place for you to build upon. How else could you have known just what to do?

Why do I need a teacher now?

You wouldn’t hesitate to contact a teacher if you were learning another language, would you? You need to be able to pronounce the words correctly, so somebody needs to show you how. It’s the same with singing – if you aren’t pronouncing the vowels right, or producing sound to it’s maximum effect, you need someone to correct you on it.

Think about olympic athletes for a second. They always train with their coach on how to get their technique exactly right, no matter how many gold medals they have achieved. They feel they can always do better, get faster, be stronger. They are always pushing beyond those boundaries of “really good” to be “even better”.

Singers are the same, no matter how good we think we might be, there is always something new we can learn to help us use our voice better, or to add more range, or work on new dynamics. Working on the voice is a lifelong process.

We all have parts of our voices we aren’t totally happy with, and just can’t figure out how to make it better. That’s where a good voice teacher comes in. A teacher that knows how to help you achieve your vocal potential with a balanced voice and easy sound production is the best choice!

Here at Your Voice Studio, we are committed to helping our students find and achieve their vocal potential. We believe in solid technique, a balanced voice, and easy sound production, and will help you get there fast with lasting results.

So, even if you think you are the best you can be, let us help you to unlock the next level of your vocals. You’ll be surprised at what you can do!
