The Institute for Vocal Advancement was founded in 2013 by a group of world-class teachers of singing, who have over 125 years of combined experience training singers and teachers of singing.
IVA’s mission is to educate and produce the finest voice instructors in the world.
This year marks the organisation’s 11th birthday, and now has over 300 teachers around the world on 5 continents teaching vocal balance to thousands of singers.
The company has nine Founding Members, based in the US, Canada, UK, Austria and Germany. They run and oversee the programme of training for the teachers around the globe.
The Founding Members have dedicated themselves to learning the best methods for training the voice, and to pass this knowledge on to others.
Five of the Founding Directors hold the title of Institute for Vocal Advancement Master Teachers.
The IVA Master Teachers have worked with singers of every genre, from Rock and Pop musicians going out on major tours to leads on Broadway performing Musical Theatre.
Under the direction of Education Director Spencer Welch, they design and deliver the education programme for IVA singing teachers all around the world.
Their passion and dedication to the craft of singing, and to the teachers of IVA, shows in the friendly and down to earth company that they and the other Founding Directors have built.
Tom Bathgate is one of the 9 Founding Members of the Institute for Vocal Advancement; one of 4 Directors in Europe, and the current CEO!
“To me IVA is an open, transparent and ethical organisation, where everyone involved is all working towards the same common goal, furthering vocal education around the world. No one person is bigger than the organisation and we are all here for the same purpose!
We have such an amazing team here at IVA and with the dedication and passion we are putting into establishing this organisation, I am proud to stand alongside my fellow founding members and look forward to a long future together.”
